The sudden death of popular singer KK shocked the entire nation. The singer breathed his last after his concert in Kolkata. When the singer felt uneasy during his performance, he left for his hotel to take rest where he collapsed. He was then rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead. A video of KK sweating profusely while performing at the concert soon went viral on social media. Well, what went more viral was a video of singer Rupankar Bagchi allegedly making insensitive comments about the craze KK had for his concert that particular day at Kolkata.
Soon after KK’s death, the video went spread on social media like fire and people started slamming and trolling Rupankar for making alleged insensitive remarks on KK. Rupankar and his family even received death threats for the video, which he later deleted.
Talking about the whole incident, Rupankar Bagchi opened up during a conversation with ETimes and said that the KK incident gave him a “reality check” and that it was necessary. He told the publication, “I know it was a mistake. It wasn’t the proper way to share my opinion. I couldn’t make people understand what I meant to say. I have utmost respect for other singers. Be it Lata Mangeshkar, Arijit Singh, Kavita Krishnamurti or Shaan – I listen to everyone’s song. I made those comments as a Bengali and to express my opinion I used KK’s name.”
Further saying that he is also a “big fan of KK’s voice”, Rupankar told, “I also want to share with everyone, I am also a big fan of KK’s voice.”
Rupankar then talked about being very naïve to the world of social media and revealed that he thought of it as a medium where he could interact with fans open mindedly just as he does with his friends. However, he then realsied his mistake and said, “I didn’t realize that on social media you can’t just say whatever you have in mind. You have to choose your words wisely. But, I must say I am thankful to those who have criticized me during the KK controversy. They have shown me how to speak on social media and for that, I am forever grateful to them.”
The singer then said that this setback was required for him to get a reality check. He was quoted saying, “I think a setback, a sudden blow was required. Now I know singer Rupankar is not a big celebrity. He’s not just a singer.”
KK passed away on May 31, 2022.
