Twitter recently bore witness to a war of words between stars Ajay Devgn and Kannada actor Kiccha Sudeep over a tweet by the former that stated Hindi as India's national language. The Runway 34 star had earlier tweeted that Hindi is and will always remain India’s national language in an uncharacteristic outburst, not known to the actor. Kiccha Sudeep's former co-star and actress-politician Ramya has now slammed Ajay Devgn, calling his ignorance 'baffling' and asking him to stop his 'Hindi imposition'.
The whole debacle started when a few days back, while talking about the success of South films like Yash starrer KGF: Chapter 2, Ram Charan and Jr NTR's RRR and Allu Arjun's Pushpa: The Rise, Kiccha Sudeep had said that Hindi is no longer India's national language. An angry Ajay retorted, asking Sudeep why did he dub jis films in Hindi, writing, “Hindi was, is and always will be our mother tongue and national language. Jan Gan Man.”
Now Ramya has tweeted Ajay's post and responded, writing, “No- Hindi is not our national language. @ajaydevgn. Your ignorance is baffling.”She further went on to cite films like KGF, Pushoa and RRR, writing, "No- Hindi is not our national language. @ajaydevgn Your ignorance is baffling. And it’s great that films like KGF Pushpa and RRR have done so well in the Hindi belt- art has no language barrier. Please enjoy our films as much as we enjoy yours- #stopHindiImposition"
Meanwhile Acharya actor Sonu Sood too had shared his thoughts on the argument about Hindi's status as the national language following the spat. Sonu Sood stated that Hindi cannot simply be referred to as the national language. In an interaction with Indian Express, he had said, "I don’t think Hindi can be called just the national language. India has one language, which is entertainment. It doesn’t really matter which industry you belong to. If you entertain people, they will love you, honour you and accept you.”
Ajay and Sudeep, however, seems to have buried the hatchet on Wednesday night itself after the Kannada star tweeted to Ajay saying the whole thing was a misunderstanding due to bad translation.
