Ludhiana: Man, niece killed as roof collapsed, four others injured

A youth and a toddler died after the roof of their house collapsed at Bhora in Punjab’s Ludhiana. The incident occurred early morning on Saturday. Apart from two casualties, four people were also injured in the incident. Nanku and Divya were killed on the spot, while other members of the family including Kumar, his wife Madhu and their two other daughters, Nandini and Roshni sustained injuries.

Ludhiana: A youth and a toddler died after the roof of their house collapsed at Bhora in Punjab’s Ludhiana. The incident occurred early morning on Saturday. Apart from two casualties, four people were also injured in the incident.

The deceased were identified as Nanku (25), his niece, Divya (1). Divya was the daughter of Nanku’s elder brother, Vijay Kumar. The incident occurred at around 4:30 am on Saturday, reported The Indian Express.

Kumar is an autorickshaw driver, he said that he and his brother, Nanku were sleeping on the rooftop. As it started raining heavily, they moved inside. And, early in the morning, the roof collapsed. All the family members were trapped under the debris.

Nanku and Divya were killed on the spot, while other members of the family including Kumar, his wife Madhu and their two other daughters, Nandini and Roshni sustained injuries. They were rushed to the hospital.

The roof that collapsed was in a dilapidated state, said Kumar. He further said that they asked the landlord to get it repaired but they did not get it done.

The family is a native of Bihar, Nanku used to work in a garment factory and is survived by a pregnant wife and parents.

In another news, a man killed a 10-year-old child after kidnapping him in Ludhiana district of Punjab. The accused was a friend of the child’s father.

The accused identified as Mukesh Kumar is a resident of Dhandhari Khurd area. He kidnapped the boy for a ransom of Rs. 1.5 lakh and later strangulated him to death reported Hindustan Times.

Mukesh and his associate, Vikas Kumar have been arrested by the police.
