Tata Motors' domestic sales dropped by 5.11% on MoM basis in October 2022

Tata Motors has released its sales figures for the month of October 2022. Although, the brand registered a dip in its domestic sales compared to September. The planned shutdown of the Pune plant for preventive maintenance and debottlenecking actions led to reduced production in Oct’22. The EV segment registered a solid 158% Y-o-Y growth, thus reflecting its continued strong response.

Tata Motors Limited sold a total of 78,335 vehicles, in both domestic and international markets, in October 2022. In the domestic market alone the brand retailed a total (including both CV, PVs, MHCV, LCVs) of 76,537 units in October 2022, which is a 17% jump from last year’s 65,151 unit sales in the same festive month.
Its commercial vehicle segment has also seen a slight dip in sales by -2%. Tata Motors retailed a total of 32,912 units of CVs, (this includes both Heavy and Light commercial vehicles, Passenger carriers, and SCV cargo and pickup) in October 2022, compared to 33,674 unit sales in October 2021.

However, Passenger carriers registered the most profit with 84% Y-o-Y growth. In October 2022, 1,759 units were sold, compared to 958 units in October 2021.
I&LCV and CV IB sales declined by -27% and -35% on a Y-o-Y basis, respectively. Sales of MH&ICV, which includes trucks and buses, in October 2022 stood at 13,251 units compared to 11,612 units in October 2021.

Among PV vehicles, Tata Motors registered the most growth with its electric vehicles. The brand retailed cumulatively 4,277 units of the Tata Nexon EV duos, Tata Tigor EV, and the newly launched Tata Tiago EV, in October 2022. In comparison, Tata Motors sold 1,660 units in October 2021, thus registering a 158% Y-o-Y growth.
A total of 45,217 units of Tata passenger vehicles were retailed in October 2022. But in September 2022, the brand retailed 47,654 units, thus registering a degrowth of 5.11% on an MoM basis. However, it did register a 33% year-on-year growth.
