Vikram is currently busy promoting Mani Ratnam's magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan 1. The film, which also stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in a pivotal role, is releasing in theatres on September 30. The film, originally in Tamil, will be dubbed in several languages, including Hindi. Incidentally, there was a times when Vikram had criticised Ran Daggubati over his Bollywood debut.
A few years back, Vikram had criticised Rana's Bollywood debut, saying, , "Look at Rana Daggubati. He started in the Telugu industry and came to Bollywood but he hadn't made any headway in the South. Now he's not bothered about the Telugu industry. To work in Bollywood, I have to leave everything and come here."
However, Rana had hit back, writing, "Dear Mr Vikram, I see you quote me and my directions in quite a few media interactions of yours recently. It is best if you focus on your career that isn't headed in the right direction with close to 10-odd disasters in your kitty."

However, the two powerhouse talents did bury the hatchet, with Rana, tweeting, "Spoke to actor Vikram finally, says its a misquote from what he actually said. Glad the air is cleared apologies to him and his fans for my harsh reaction."
Meanwhile, recently, at the recent press conference of the epic period action film, Vikram heaped praise on his co-star Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and also talked about the constant scrutiny that she faces for being who she is.
He said, “She has always stolen everyone’s heart. Every time there have been many women, who have been queens, Aish has always been symbolic of that picture of perfection we look up to. I have seen her films and I think it wasn't just about beauty, it was what she stood for.”
Besides Aishwarya and Vikram, the film also features Jayam Ravi, Karthi, and Trisha Krishnan in pivotal roles. AR Rahman has composed its music.
