New Delhi: Days after quitting Congress and joining the BJP, senior leader Sunil Jahkar praised Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for acknowledging Centre’s commitment for procuring Moong at MSP in the state and reducing excise duty on petrol and diesel prices.
“Thank you @BhagwantMannji for gracefully acknowledging Central Govt's commitment for procuring Moong at #MSP in Punjab. Even the excise duty on #Petrol #Diesel has been reduced substantially, now request you to similarly reduce the VAT in #Punjab,” he wrote on Twitter.
Jakhar, a former Punjab Congress chief last week joined the BJP, days after he quit the grand old party.
“It is not easy to break a relationship with the Congress that spanned three generations – from 1972 till now. We had been with the Congress in good times and bad,” he said.
The veteran leader had also said that the BJP had welcomed him because he had not pursued politics for personal good.
Jakhar had quit the Congress earlier this month after slamming former Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Twitter, saying that he was "not an asset" as portrayed by the party leadership.
Jakhar, a three-term MLA and a former Lok Sabha member from Gurdaspur, quit the Congress as he was miffed for being removed from all party posts by the Congress disciplinary committee following allegations of anti-party activities by certain Punjab unit leaders against him.
