It's been raining medals for India in the Commonwealth Games 2022, with the country's overall tally already touching 9 after the first 4 days. A number of other athletes/teams are set to add to the country's medals tally on Day 5 (Tuesday). One of these is the Mixed badminton team that is up against Malaysia in the final.
Indian shuttlers are among the best in the world, and there's no denying that. Having recently won the Thomas & Uber Cup, the Indian Mixed Team entered the 2022 Birmingham Games as the favourite to clinch the Gold medal. In fact, it was the Indian team that had finished on the top podium in the previous edition of the CWG at Gold Coast as well.
Unlike India's opponents so far, the battle with Malaysia is being seen as a contest between 'equals'. Malaysia, in fact, had won the mixed team event at the Commonwealth Games three times in a row before India ended their stupendous run in 2018 Gold Coast final. There's no denying that Malaysia would be out to take their crown back tonight.
PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth, Lakshya Sen, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty will be the Indian stars in focus as the two teams lock horns at the National Exhibition Centre.
