The Telugu and Tamil film industries have been thriving amid the love from the audiences and how they have been doing well even in dubbed versions. And now, the upcoming films that are much talked about and much awaited, including the likes of Prabhas' next with KGF director Prashanth Neel, Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2, SS Rajamouli's movie with Mahesh Babu and S. Shankar's movie with Ram Charan, have all seen a scaling up when it comes to budgeting. They are now budgeted between Rs 150 Crore to Rs 200 Crore each, and will therefore see better action, visual effects, and a wider distribution.
Meanwhile, it must also be noted how films from down South have even seen a hike in the satellite TV and streaming rights for their Hindi dubbed versions and it is as high as by 300% over the past decade. As a result, producers are able to amp up the budget of the films, as per trades.
Mint, stated an example of Chiranjeevi's upcoming film Godfather, that has Salman Khan and is scheduled for a Dussehra weekend release, and has in fact, sold ancillary rights for a whopping Rs 100 crore.
Further, experts also told the portal how when a first part becomes a hit, more money goes into making the sequel, and filmmakers understand the appeal of a franchise and the stars, therefore, invest more money to woo the masses, including the Hindi belt.
One can recall how KGF: Chapter 1 made Rs 44 crore from the Hindi version in 2018 whereas the chapter 2 managed to make Rs 434 Crore from its Hindi dubbed version alone. Similar is the case with Jr. NTR and Ram Charan's RRR as well.
