Ludhiana: Unable to accept mother’s death, man consumes poison & ends life

Ludhiana: On Saturday in the Raikot town of the Ludhiana district, an elderly woman and her son allegedly committed suicide. Police said that Binder Kaur killed herself first by jumping into a canal, and then her son also committed suicide. Yadwinder Singh ingested poison after knowing that his mother committed suicide. Although neighbours rushed him to the hospital but still he could not be saved.

The body of Binder Kaur (65), a resident of New Model Town in Raikot, was discovered on Saturday under the Daddahoor canal bridge, according to Ludhiana Rural Police, The Indian Express reported.

Police said that the wife of Yadwinder Singh (32) has reportedly been living apart from him at her parents' home, while the couple's two minor children, a boy and a girl, were residing with Yadwinder and his mother Binder Kaur.

Inspector Jaspal Singh, SHO of the Raikot Sadar police station, stated that the cause of the woman's death has not yet been determined. Jaspal Singh also said that the woman's body was pulled from the canal and no suicide note was discovered.

The SHO also said, "Later, we learned that her son had also committed suicide after knowing about his mother's death. His death occurred within the jurisdiction of City Raikot. There will be an investigation into the woman's passing under Section 174 of the CrPC."
