In the first ODI of the three-match unofficial One-Day series, Sanju Samson-led India A team will take on Tom Bruce’s New Zealand A team at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The India A team won the three-match red-ball series last week by a margin of 1-0, after getting the better of the visitors by 113 runs in the third game. They would be eager to maintain that good run in the white-ball series as well.

After failing to find his place in the Indian team for the upcoming T20 World Cup as well as the ongoing bilateral series against Australia, Sanju Samson was handed the India A captaincy and he would be eager to get some runs under his belt so that he can push for his selection in the India team for the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa.

In the absence of T20 World Cup-bound players, India will announce a second-string squad for the ODI series against South Africa, and so the upcoming three matches against New Zealand A will provide a great opportunity for players like Prithvi Shaw, Rajat Patidar, Rahul Tripathi, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Umran Malik, and Rahul Chahar to do well and find a place in the Men in Blue ODI squad.

Apart from skipper Sanju, all eyes will be on Shaw and Patidar in the upcoming matches, as the duo is in ravishing form these days. While Shaw was on fire for West Zone in the Duleep Trophy matches, Madhya Pradesh batter Patidar did well in the red-ball matches against New Zealand A. And if the duo continue to maintain their form in the upcoming three matches as well, then they are likely to find a place in the Indian ODI team as well.
