Bengaluru: Several buildings in the Mahadevapura zone in Bengaluru witnessed the bulldozer action on Monday as the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) continued its anti-encroachment drive in the city. An operation to clear the stormwater drains has been conducted today in five places within the Mahadevapura zone, the BBMP said.
The clearance operation was carried out near the Kadubeesanahalli Jalmandal Sewage Treatment Plant site and Marathahalli Police Station. A compound wall of an apartment near the Garudacharpalya lake was demolished. A temporary structure on the drains behind East Park Ridge and a nearby road built on the canal have also been removed by the authorities. Concrete slabs within the premises of Green Wood Residency were cleared. The operation is still going on and will remove all the encroachments on a war footing, the officials said on Monday evening.
A survey by the BBMP officials inside Wipro's campus found that the width of the canal has been reduced to 2.4 metres. A concrete structure that blocked the canal within the campus was removed. A 75-meter-long compound wall and two sheds have also been cleared on both sides of the drains in Vijayalakshmi Colony in Kadugodi. Also, notices have been issued to eight out of ten houses in the same stretch, the officials said.
Meanwhile, the BBMP on Monday informed the Karnataka High court that there were 2626 encroachments across out of which 2024 have been removed and 602 encroachments are remaining. The corporation said that the strictures are being removed on a day-to-day basis. The court directed the civic body to complete the demolition at the earliest and asked them to submit a compliance report of the anti-encroachment drive once a fortnight before the court.
Also, a complaint was made to the Lokayukta on Monday to take action against the municipal authorities who approved the construction of buildings that are obstructing storm water drains and city lakes.
