EXCLUSIVE: No question of 'remote control' in party, such issues raised by cynics, says Shashi Tharoor on Congress president polls

Speaking about his vision for the party, Shashi Tharoor said, "I have a vision for the Congress party, want to revive the party and I seek support from all the delegates. Once Congress is revived, leaders who have left might reconsider their decision."
New Delhi: Congress Member of Parliament (MP) from Kerala, Shashi Tharoor, who has filed his nomination for the position of Congress President, there is nothing as remote control in the party and such questions are raised by what we call 'cynics'.
"If they (Gandhis) wanted to do this, they need not have gone through the entire process of election, they could have just asked Rahul Gandhi to withdraw his presidential resignation and he could have been president within months. And the entire Congress working committee would have unanimously supported that and same with the majority of party workers," said Tharoor told Mirror Now in an exclusive interview.
Tharoor further added, "I think that kind of argument we use the word 'cynic' when you began asking the question. It's unduly cynical. Because honestly they don't need to go through this elaborate procedure to reaffirm their own power. I think they have consciously chosen to step back."
"She (Sonia Gandhi) doesn't wants to take side in this election and she wants the party to find its own leader. I believe that's genuinely the case. If she wanted to continue to remote control the party, then she need not have put the party through this exercise and I don't believe that the cynics are right," Tharoor told Mirror Now's Tamanna Inamdar.
The Thiruvananthapuram MP handed his nomination papers to the party's national election authority chairman, Madhusudan Mistry, at the AICC headquarters.
