Commonwealth Games 2022: Mohammed Hussamuddin wins bronze in men's 57 kg featherweight boxing category

Indian boxer Mohammed Hussamuddin on Saturday won a bronze medal in the men's 57 kg featherweight. In the semifinal, the Indian pugilist lost to Ghana's Joseph Commey 1-4. Meanwhile, Nikhat Zareen, Nitu Ghanghas, Sagar Ahlawat and Amit Panghal stormed into the finals in their respective categories. So far, India has won 40 medals.

Birmingham: Indian boxer Mohammed Hussamuddin on Saturday won a bronze medal in the men's 57 kg featherweight at the commonwealth games 2022 in Birmingham. In the semifinal, the Indian pugilist lost to Ghana's Joseph Commey 1-4.
Earlier in the quarter-final, Hussamuddin defeated Namibia's Tryagain Morning Ndevelo in a 4-1 split verdict. It was Hussamuddin's second medal in the commonwealth games. In the 2018 Gold Coast games also, he won a bronze medal. He had also won a bronze medal in the first India International Open boxing championship in New Delhi. Another Indian boxer, Rohit Tokas, won a bronze medal in the men's 67 kg category.
Earlier in the day, Jaismine Lamboriya clinched the bronze medal in the women's 60 kg Lightweight category after losing to England's Gemma Paige. Meanwhile, Nikhat Zareen, Nitu Ghanghas, Sagar Ahlawat and Amit Panghal stormed into the finals in their respective categories.
India is at the fifth spot in the CWG 2022 medal tally. So far, India has won 40 medals, including 13 gold, 11 silver and 16 bronze medals. Indian wrestlers won 11 medals, including six gold, one silver and four bronze.
Among the wrestlers, Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, Deepak Punia, Vinesh Phogat, Ravi Kumar Dahiya and Naveen won gold medals in their respective categories. Meanwhile, 10 medals, including three gold, were won by Indian weightlifters.
Australia is leading the tally with 153 medals, including 58 gold, followed by England with 50 gold medals. The closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games 2022 will be held on August 8.
