Nearly 200 terrorists waiting across LoC to infiltrate into India: Northern Army Commander

The Army commander said that infiltration is drastically down, and that ceasefire along Indo-Pak border is working 'well' since February 2021 agreement. He also noted that the number of trained terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir is declining with each passing day as 21 foreign terrorists have been killed this year so far in absence of local shelter and support.

Srinagar: Northern Army Commander Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi on Friday said that nearly 200 terrorists are waiting across the Line of Control (LoC) to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir.
“The number of terrorists staged across the Indo-Pak border is approximately 200. They are waiting across (LoC) to be launched to this side,” he said on being asked about the security situation along the LoC and across the Jammu and Kashmir border.
The Army commander said that counter-infiltration grid is very fool-proof. He further said that there are six major terrorist camps and 29 minor camps and temporary launching pads located close to various military establishments.
“There are approximately six major terrorist camps and 29 minor ones. Also, there are number of temporary launch pads which are generally co-located with various military establishments. So the complicity of the Pakistan army and other agencies cannot be denied,” he said, blaming Pakistan army for sustaining the terror infrastructure.
He further said that infiltration is drastically down, and that ceasefire along Indo-Pak border is working 'well' since February 2021 agreement.
“We have made sure that all reserve troops were put in the second tier of defence so that no infiltration takes place. From February 2021, ceasefire understanding has been working very well. In the last twelve months, to say so, the number of ceasefire violations has been very limited -- only one to three CFVs took place. Current infiltration rate is fool-proof to a great extent,” he said.
He also noted that the number of trained terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir is declining with each passing day as 21 foreign terrorists have been killed this year so far in absence of local shelter and support.
The Army commander said that there are 40 to 50 local terrorists currently operating in the hinterland besides foreign terrorists, whose number cannot be determined.
