Jalandhar: A man was arrested from Maharashtra’s Shirdi who was wanted in a firing incident by the Jalandhar police commissionerate on Saturday. The firing incident took place on April 14 in Gopal Nagar.
The accused identified as Puneet Soni, is a resident of Shaheeb Baby Labh Singh Nagar in Jalandhar. Two weapons and 25 cartridges were seized by the police from Soni’s possession. The police claimed Soni is a sharp shooter who is associated with the Pancham gang, reported The Indian Express.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Jaskiranjeet Singh Teja while addressing a press conference on Saturday said that a probe in the Gopal Nagar firing case had been conducted by a team of CIA staff-2 and Anti-Narcotics Cell. In the probe it was found that Himanshu Sondhi was fired upon by Puneet and other members of the gang as an act of revenge. One passerby was seriously injured in the incident.
During the investigation the police team received a tip-off that Puneet was hiding in Shirdi, after that a team moved to Shirdi and with the help of Maharashtra police nabbed the suspect, said Teja. The police said that Puneet had two other criminal cases lodged against him.
Puneet has been taken on a three-day police remand and would be interrogated further in the case, said the DCP.
