Dharmashala: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jairam Thakur on Monday announced that an SIT would investigate the matter of Khalistan flags found tied on the main gate & boundary wall of the state Assembly building in Dharmshala. The chief minister also noted that 'surveillance on the state border has been increased to avoid such incidents from happening again.'
Notably, Khalistan flags were found tied on the main gate and walls of the premises of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly in Dharamshala in Kangra district on Sunday. The Assembly was not in session currently as the winter session of the Assembly is held in Dharmashala. All the other sessions are held at the Assembly in Shimla.
"We've constituted an SIT in Himachal Pradesh, investigation process has been taken forward. We've taken up a new step in the state as a security measure, under this surveillance is being increased at the Himachal border so that we can stop such incidents from happening again," Jairam Thakur said.
"Govt has taken this incident very seriously. We've spoken with the Centre regarding this & all info is being collected as to who can be behind all of this," the chief minister added.
Jairam Thakur also noted that the police department has been put on high alert in view of the incident. "Besides this, we have told the Police department that we need to be alert so that this incident doesn't happen again and nobody dares to disturb the peace," he said.
Earlier the chief minister assured in a tweet that 'strict action will be taken against the perpetrators of the incident.'
"Himachal is a cordial state and peace should prevail here. Wherever the culprits of the incident in Dharamsala are, they will be caught soon. This cowardly phase of those people will not last long. Certainly, strict action will be taken against the perpetrators of this incident," he wrote in a tweet.
