Indians have been familiar with the tragic story of Bal Krishna Ganju, the Kashmiri Pandit MTNL engineer who was murdered in cold blood by terrorists on March 19, 1990, since The Kashmir Files began playing to crowded theatres across the country.
The militants shot Ganju point-blank through the rice container he was hidden in, forcing his wife to consume the blood-soaked rice, according to the film.
It so happened that the terrorists, who shot him, also threatened others who would participate in his cremation or share the grief with his family members. All of this transpired because they suspected that he was leaking their messages to the Central government.
“Ganju even requested the government to send a vehicle so that he can get out safely. But no one listened to him and around 10 am the terrorists knocked at his door. Ganjoo's wife made him hide in a big rice drum. The terrorists could not find him. While they were going back someone told them he is hiding in the drum. The terrorists fired six bullets into the drum, killing Ganjoo,” Reeta Parimoo, BK Ganju’s colleague’s wife, told Asianet News.
In a recent turn of events, late BK Ganju’s daughter wrote a heartfelt letter to The Kashmir Files director Vivek Agnihotri to thank him for giving her and the family a means to heal and for celebrating her dad’s life and sacrifice.
The filmmaker took to twitter to share the letter with the caption, “I have no words to express my feelings after receiving this letter from the daughter of BK Ganju. I hope all persecuted Kashmiri Hindus heal. I pray to Genocide Deniers to give them free space to share their trauma and help them heal.
What is HUMANITY, after all?”

The Kashmir Files hit the theatres on March 11, 2022.
