Chandigarh:The leaders of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Saturday “condemned” the behaviour of "power drunk" Punjab Health Minister Chetan Singh Jouramajra and demanded to sack him after he was seen forcing the Vice Chancellor of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) to lie on a dirty mattress at a hospital.
Jouramajra has come under fire from several quarters when he asked VC Raj Bahadur to lie on a dirty mattress during an inspection to Faridkot’s Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital, which comes under the BFUHS, on Friday.
After the video of Jouramajra went viral on the social media, opposition parties hit out at the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over the incident.
Taking to Twitter, former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab and SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal said, “Strongly condemn reprehensible behaviour of Pb health min Jauramajra with eminent surgeon & BFUHS VC Dr Raj Bahadur.Have spoken to Dr Bahadur & expressed solidarity with him besides assuring full support to entire med fraternity which is being targeted by AAP ministers & MLAs (sic).”
He further accused the AAP ministers and MLAs in Punjab for “routinely abusing their power to belittle government functionaries as per directions of their “trainers” Arvind Kejriwal and Raghav Chadha”.
He further requested Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to “rein in the criminal tendencies of his MLAs” and warned him to ready “to face the wrath of Punjabis” if it does not happen.
His wife and former Union Minister Harsmirat Kaur Badal also tweeted about the incident and asked CM Mann “to dismiss power drunk health minister”.
“I request @BhagwantMann to dismiss power drunk health min Jauramajra for misbehaving with BFUHS VC Dr Raj Bahadur & tender apology to renowned surgeon besides requesting him to withdraw resignation. Any delay will demoralise med fraternity & jeopardise health services in Pb (sic),” she tweeted.
The video clip of the incident, which has been circulated on the social media, showed Jouramajra place a hand on the VC’s shoulder as he pointed towards the “damaged and dirty condition” of the mattress inside the hospital’s skin department. He then seen to be allegedly forcing Dr Bahadur to lie down on the same mattress.
Following the incidence, VC Raj Bahadur has been reportedly resigned and requested the Punjab Chief Minister to relieve him from services.
