Pune: Bee attack on tourists at Sinhagad fort, five fall unconscious on the spot

11 people were injured in a bee attack on Sunday, at the Sinhagad fort when a bee hive fell down. Five of them were unconscious on the spot and all 11 were rushed to the hospital.

Pune: In a surprising event, as many as 11 tourists were stung by a swarm of bees at Sinhagad Fort near Pune on Sunday. Five of them fell unconscious on the spot. This is the fourth bee attack on tourists at the site since March.
As soon as the Forest Protection Committee and the local Forest Department were notified, they arrived at the scene. 108 Ambulance was also called immediately and the injured, including children, were rushed to the hospital.
According to the police, the incident occurred at 2 pm near Kalyan Darwaja. The event occurred while a group of tourists was visiting the fort.
Pune Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Ayush Prasad said, “According to preliminary reports, 11 people suffered bee stings. After receiving information, we mobilised ambulances. Of the 11, two received treatment on the spot while nine had to be rushed to a local hospital in Khed Shivapur.”
“Eight people are receiving treatment at Shreeyash hospital, Khed Shivapur, and are stable. Two tourists are being operated on at Silver Birch hospital, Dhayari out of them one is stable and other is still unconscious,” said Abhinav Deshmukh, Pune rural superintendent of police (SP).
At least 200 tourists were stung by bees while touring the famous Shivneri Fort in March. At least 25 of them required medical attention and were treated at a local government hospital before being released.
“This is the fourth bee attack at forts this year. Two happened in Junnar, one happened at Bhor and now Sinhagad Fort. Whenever tourists are going to eco-sensitive hotspots, they must respect local ecologies and all flora and fauna. Do not touch or disturb any animals or plant species,” said Prasad.
