Indian men's hockey team missed out on a spot in the final of the ongoing Asia Cup by just one goal as they played out a thrilling 4-4 draw against Korea in the Super 4s match in Jakarta, Indonesia on Tuesday. By the virtue of the result, Korea advanced to the final to face Malaysia and India will be up against Japan in the third-place match for the Bronze medal.
The second-string Indian team led by Birendra Lakra had started their campaign with a second-place finish in the preliminary round in Pool A. India lost one, won one and drew one game and their only loss came against their Wednesday's opponents Japan.
However, the Men in Blue took their revenge in the Super 4s by beating Japan 2-1 in their first game of the second round. However, a 3-3 draw against Malaysia meant India had to win their final encounter against Korea to advance to the final on goal difference.
Tuesday's match was levelled at 1-1 after the second quarter, however, the third quarter saw 6 goals being scored with both teams sharing three each. The goalless final quarter meant India were knocked out of the finals race and will hope to finish their campaign on a high against Japan.
