Dilip Joshi, who is celebrating his 54th birthday, revealed that the producer of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah never asked him to audition for the show. He also shared that Asit Modi knew him since college days. Guess what? The makers had offered Dilip two roles and he finally give his nod to playing Jethalal.
Dilip Joshi reveals he never auditioned for TMKOC
Our favourite Dilip Joshi aka Jethalal turned a year older on Thursday (May 25). While several TV actors have quit their long running shows, Dilip has been playing the lead role in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah for the past thirteen years. The talented artist, who became a household name after essaying the role of Jethalal Champaklal Gada, is busy celebrating is special day with his loved ones.
Guess what? Dilip Joshi never auditioned for the role of Jetha. Yes, you read that right! Producer Asit Modi had offered him two roles and he opted for the main character of Jethalal.
The 54-year-old, while talking to a leading daily, revealed that he knew the producer of TMKOC since his college days. Considering his acting prowess, Asit Modi never asked him to audition for the sitcom. Modi offered him the roles of Jetha and his father Champaklal Gada as he believed that he would be a nice addition to the cast of the show.
The Hum Apke Hai Koun actor said that his producer was sure he could pull off both the roles with ease. "He said I could pull off both and thus can make my choice. I wasn’t sure of Champak and thus picked Jetha," Dilip Joshi told Indian Express.
Dilip has received several accolades for his impressive performance in Taarak Mehta. The sitcom, which was launched in July 2008, is one of the longest running shows on Indian television. Despite completing over 3400 episodes, TMKOC is still successfully running on the small screen.
Dilip's chemistry with co-star Disha Vakani grabbed several eyeballs for the show. Ardent fans of the show are missing their favourite Daya ben as Disha has taken a break after the birth of her daughter. When asked about Disha's comeback, her on-screen husband had said that the production house should address the rumours as he can't talk about her return.
