Tom Cruise starrer Top Gun: Maverick not only brought back to the big screen the magic of the 1986 hit Top Gun, but also saw two of the film's OG stars share a poignant moment onscreen. Now Tom Cruise has opened up about the emotional reunion he shared with Val Kilmer in Top Gun: Maverick, 36 years after their character's rivalry turned into a lifelong friendship in the original.
The film had its premiere in London's Leicester, with Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in attendance. And during the red carpet, Cruise, 59, opened up on sharing screen once again as Captain Pete Maverick Mitchell with Val Kilmer's Admiral Tom Iceman Kazansky.
In an interaction with Metro, Cruise revealed it was a 'lovely' experience with one of the producers even saying it was an 'emotional' moment to witness.

The actor was quoted as saying, "It was lovely. The whole experience, you know, 36 years to make this film. There were so many moments in making it that were very special, incredibly unique," before adding, "He’s an actor that I greatly admire, so it was wonderful."
The poignant scene had Val Kilmer rasping through as the two celebrated actors shared a hug. In 2017, it was revealed that Val suffered a two-year battle with throat cancer and had undergone a procedure on his trachea, which had reduced his voice to a rasp.
The actor had subsequently, taken to Reddit to reveal that his tongue is still swollen even though it is healing and he may not sound like himself, which could lead to people conjecturing that he may be still under the weather.
