New Delhi: The co-founder and CEO of Zerodha, an online broking firm have announced a unique health initiative for the company's staff members, promising an attractive bonus to those who met their health goals over the next year.
Nithin Kamath has challenged the staff members to set an activity goal on their fitness trackers to record their daily burnt calorie data and win Rs 10 lakhs. He has also dared the employees to achieve their daily health goal of 90 per cent of the days over the next year.
“Given that most of us are WFH and sitting is the new smoking, turning into an epidemic. We are doing whatever to nudge everyone on the teams and hopefully, they and their families to move daily,” stated Kamath in a LinkedIn post.
Kamath says the winners will be receiving a month's salary also as a bonus, in a drive meant for motivation among the staff.
“Our latest health challenge at Zerodha is to give an option to set a daily activity goal on our fitness trackers. Anyone meeting whatever goal is set on 90 per cent of the days over the next year gets one month's salary as a bonus. One lucky draw of Rs 10 lakhs as a motivation kicker,” the post added.

Tips to stay active while WFH

Working from home does sound like a dream where you don't face the daily rush and traffic but the mundane settings can lead to a sedentary life. It is important to be physically and mentally fit and for this, here are a few tips that can help you get moving:
  1. Exercise daily: No matter how heavy the workload is, make it a point to exercise daily. As opposed to the notion that it may tire you, exercise helps you feel more energetic and concentrate on work better.
  2. Get up from your seat every 30 minutes: Sitting on a seat for a long time cannot just be boring, but also affect your health. It is important to get up and move around after every half an hour for just 5-6 minutes.
  3. Make use of digital: Since the advent of the internet, our lives have become very easy. You don't have to waste your time traveling to your nearest gym to exercise. Make use of the internet and Wi-Fi connection and take online yoga, aerobics, or Pilates classes.
  4. Set reminder alarms: During meetings and deadlines, it is very easy to get caught up at work and forget about exercising. Set reminder alarms and break the monotony to ensure you don’t become too sedentary. Create a block schedule of times you need to focus on work or meetings, and then set an alarm at least once every 2 hours to get up and move.
  5. Improve your posture: While you sit and work for long hours, the body posture and go for a toss. Hence, make a conscious effort to straighten your spine after every 15-20 minutes. Do some breathing exercises as well.
  6. Dress comfortably: Since the WFH environment is more casual, dress up also in casual, comfortable clothes so that you do not waste time changing and exercising.
  7. Do neck exercises: After every 4-5 hours do some simple neck exercises to avoid putting strain.
