Ahmedabad: A team of Gujarat License Service Area (LSA) which is a part of the Department of Telecommunication (DoT) carried out a special connectivity drive in seven villages situated in Hau taluka in the Kutch district on Wednesday. The drive was carried out as part of the central government's Vibrant Village Programme (VVP).
The aim of the drive was to make an assessment of the socio-economic conditions and challenges faced by the people living in the border villages of the state. The team is also expected to come up with practical solutions for comprehensive development in these areas in order to bring these villages into the mainstream.
The villages where the survey was conducted include Kharoda, Kalyanpar, Janan, Ratanpar, Gadhada, Amarapar and Ganeshpar. The Telecommunication Department’s team took input and feedback from the villagers on the status of the existing facilities and further requirements pertaining to the telecom connectivity in the areas.
The team also studied and recorded the parameters and details of the services including 2G, 3G and 4G being provided, the reliability and availability of power supply, quality of service parameters and downtime periods.
The teams studied data speed and received coverage levels at these villages in order to provide better services there. Apart from this, the feasibility of setting up public wi-fi under various government schemes was also assessed.
Under the Vibrant Village Programme (VVP) which was announced in the Union Budget FY 2022-23, the Centre plans to rehabilitate people living along the international border areas by providing them with all the basic facilities.
Activities under the VVP include building infrastructures such as housing, tourist centres, road connectivity, providing decentralised renewable energy, direct-to-home access for Doordarshan and educational channels, and support for livelihood generation.
