The first reactions to Disney + Hotstar's upcoming series Ms Marvel is already out and MCU fans are lauding it. For the unversed, the series is part of Phase 4 of MCU and is the seventh television series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Ms Marvel stars Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan aka Ms Marvel - fangirl of the Avengers, particularly Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel. However, as early reports are to go by, she is apparently a fan of our very own Badshah of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan as well!
Turns out critics were given access to two of the six episodes of the upcoming series and the show appears to have multiple references to South Asian pop-culture. For starters, Iman Vellani's Kamala makes mutiple references to SRK movies as well. The show about a Pakistani-American teenager, also stars popular names Farhan Akhtar, Fawad Khan, Mehwish Hayat and Alyy Khan among others.
Critic Courtney Howard who watched the first two episodes, refered to the fandom and wrote, They shout-out BAAZIGAR, DDLJ and SRK (‘There’s no such thing as a bad Shah Rukh Khan movie’) in #MsMarvel episode 2 so *obviously* it’s the best Marvel series ever.”

Another critic went on to write, “I’ve seen the first 2eps of #MsMarvel, and boy, I love Baazigar, all-time performance, but it’s not his best movie. Veer-Zaara, Swades, Chak De India, DDLJ, Devdas, Dil Se, & K3G should all be top ten. Kamala is right though, ‘There’s no such thing as a bad Shah Rukh Khan movie."
Meanwhile, BBC Asian Network's critic wrote, “LOVED the first 2 eps of Ms Marvel. This is the South Asian rep I want to see. Sugar-coated saunf, dialogue about @iamsrk’s best film, a soundtrack including @hasanraheeem’s Peechay Hutt. Kamala Khan is unapologetically brown and I LOVE IT.”
Meanwhile, a few days back MCU boss Kevin Feige compared Iman Vellani to Tom Holland. In an interaction with Empire Magazine, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige compared Ms. Marvel actress Iman Vellani to Tom Holland, aka MCU's Spider-Man, calling her a much bigger Marvel fan than they realised, adding that she always writes down ideas and throughts in a notebook that she carries around.
"Much like Tom Holland and and Peter Parker, Iman is a much bigger Marvel fan than we realized. “(On set) she carries this Unabomber notebook with her everywhere, with her scribbles and ideas. And why wouldn’t we want to hear them? Not just because she’s playing the lead, she’d be commenting on the show online. So better comment before the show’s done, and try to incorporate some of those ideas," the magazine quoted him as saying.
