Kolkata: Police bust ‘Dating Centre’ operating in disguise of matrimonial center; one held, two absconding

Kolkata: The city police busted a ‘dating centre’ that was reportedly operating in disguise as a matrimonial centre in Balaram Dey Street of Kolkata. The raid operation was conducted by Girish Park police station.
The police arrested one of the accused, identified as Akash Prajapati of Liluah in Howrah. After receiving a tip-off, the raid was conducted on September 29 at the fake matrimonial center, India Today reported.
According to the police, they found that the call center is being operated with laptops, mobile phones, data sheets including other documents and gadgets. Notably, the employees of the dating centre used to call people for sexual pleasure.
In addition, the employees used to earn lucrative income as escort service by showing forged documents. While one of the accused is in police net, the proprietor and his associates are at the large.
The Kolkata Police has seized several gadgets and documents. Investigation is in progress and manhunt has been launched to nab other accused.
Recently, in August 2022, a 35-year-old woman and her friend were arrested for allegedly creating fake profiles on matrimonial sites and duping people looking for life partners online of their hard-earned money.
Renuka Gusain and Amos Gurang (42), both natives of Nepal, recently duped a woman of over Rs 34 lakh which she deposited into the bank account of a person she believed was her future husband, PTI reported. Police said they recovered Rs 40,000 cash, four mobile phones, five bank passbooks as well as cheque books from the accused.
