WhatsApp has started rolling out various new features to its messaging service. Some of these include the ability to mute people during group calls, message specific users while on a group call and hide their profile picture from specific users.
To start off, WhatsApp's new feature will allow you to mute other users who forget to do it themselves. Users will be able to use the feature, in case if they're in the same room as someone who’s also on the call, and do not want to hear an echo of what they have to say.
While video conferencing platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams, allow hosts to mute all participants (or specific ones), they do not provide an option to individual users to mute who they want during a call.
WhatsApp's new feature is set to offer an all new level of control for users. WhatsApp allows up to a maximum of eight people on video calls and up to 32 on voice calls, so this feature can be extremely useful when there are a lot of participants.
Additionally, WhatsApp will now allow you to message specific users while on a group call. The app is also getting a new banner, that will alert you when someone new has joined a call after it has already started.
Up until now, WhatsApp only allowed you to hide your profile photo, ‘About’, and ‘last seen’ from everyone or people not on your contact list. Now, WhatsApp is introducing a new feature that will allow users to choose the contacts who will be able to view their profile photo, about, and last seen status. This will add another layer of protection to your accounts.
