Pune: The daily number of Covid-19 cases continues to see a spike in the Pune district area as a total of 996 cases were reported from the region on Sunday. While this tally includes several cases from Saturday due to a technical snag, the average daily numbers recorded in the district have been high for the past few days.
To the horror of many, the daily number of cases neared the 1000-mark on Sunday but it was later clarified by the state health department that the numbers were high due to a technical glitch in the ICMR portal. The entire daily data of COVID cases on Saturday could not be downloaded so, those remaining cases have been added to the daily tally of Sunday.
The state recorded 6,493 cases on Sunday, which was higher than the actual.
Out of the total of 996 cases reported from the Pune district, 672 cases were from Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), 225 cases were reported from Pimpri-Chinchwad, and 99 cases from Pune rural. With this, the tally of active cases in the district has reached 2,827.
Though the severity of the virus is low this time, the state and central government have asked the district administration to exercise caution. The civic officials have already increased the vaccination in the city.
704 Covid-positive patients under Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits were double vaccinated and 11 patients received a single dose until June 23. According to officials, there were 71 unvaccinated patients in the area till June 23.
According to the officials, the cases are likely to increase after the Pandhanpur pilgrimage in the state as a large crowd of devotees is participating in the wari procession that is moving towards Pandharpur.
