1. Latest on Covid:
India reported 16,135 new coronavirus cases and 24 deaths in the last 24 hours. Total active cases in the country stand at 1,13,864, with a daily positivity rate of 4.85%. On the brighter side, India also reported close to 14,000 recoveries yesterday.
2. Chennai's Mask Mandate:
Chennai has made masks mandatory again in public places after Covid-19 cases rose again in the southern state Tamil Nadu. As per the data provided by the state health department, Tamil Nadu had recorded 2,672 fresh infections yesterday, while 2,385 cases on Saturday. The death toll, however, stands at zero.
3. Eknath Shinde Wins Trust Vote:
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has won the floor test held today in the State Assembly on the last day of the two-day special session of the House. In the 288-member House, 164 MLAs voted for the motion of confidence, while 99 voted against it. Three legislators abstained from voting, while Congress's Ashok Chavan and Vijay Wadettiwar were among those absent during the trust vote. Ajit Pawar to be the next new Leader of Opposition
4. 16 Dead as Bus Falls into Gorge in Kullu:
Sixteen people including some school children were killed in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu when a bus fell into a gorge in Kullu. Officials say that at least 40 students were in the bus when the accident took place.
5. Karnataka's Sini Shetty Crowned Femina Miss India:
Sini Shetty from Karnataka was announced the winner of Femina Miss India World 2022 title at the grand finale held in Mumbai yesterday. Rajasthan's Rubal Shekhawat emerged as the first runner-up and Shinata Chauhan from Uttar Pradesh was named Femina Miss India 2022 second runner-up.
6. Carlos Sains Wins Maiden F1:
Carlos Sainz claimed his first Formula One victory in his 150th race yesterday when he drove his Ferrari to a spectacular triumph in a furious and crash-hit British Grand Prix. The 27-year-old Spaniard resisted a charging Sergio Perez of Red Bull and crossed the finish line in front of a record crowd of 142,000 at the high-speed Silverstone circuit.
