BJP leader booked for allegedly abusing woman in Noida, NCW takes suo moto cognisance

Noida: A case has been registered against BJP leader Shrikant Tyagi for abusing and assaulting a woman. While the National Commission for Women has taken suo moto cognisance and called for his arrest, the Noida Police has launched an intense manhunt to nab the accused. As per the latest updates, four people including his wife have been detained for questioningand his vehicle has been seized.
Tyagi stands accused of outraging a woman's modesty during an argument over the plantation of palm trees near his apartment here in a residential society. The matter came to light on Friday when several video clippings of the incident went viral on social media in which the Tyagi could be heard hurling abuses at the woman, and even pushing and threatening her. The residents of the society could also be seen accusing Tyagi of encroaching the area by planting small and large plants.
Social media users also shared the response of the victim woman in which she narrated the entire incident.
"I live in Grand Omaxe. A man, named Shrikant Tyagi, residing on the ground floor was encroaching the society by planting small and large plants in the common area. When I asked him to remove it, he denied and when I tried to remove them, he hurled abuses at me and my husband and kids," the woman said.
"A case has been registered against one Shrikant Tyagi for abusing and assaulting a woman. A video went viral on social media in which he can be seen doing this. The accused is absconding and teams have been formed to nab him," the Central Noida ADCP said yesterday.
An FIR has been registered under section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the IPC at the Panchsheel police station.
"National Commission for Women has taken cognizance of the incident. Chairperson Rekha Sharma has written to UP DGP to ensure fair and speedy investigation in the matter. NCW has also sought FIR and arrest of the accused for assaulting a woman," the organisation tweeted. The commission said it has also written to the police to provide protection to the woman.
