Mumbai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted the possibility of very heavy to extremely heavy showers at isolated places in the next 24 hours in Mumbai. On Friday, the met department predicted moderate to heavy rainfall for the city and its suburbs.
As per data, Mumbai city received 179.13 mm of rain in 24 hours till 8 am today, while the western suburbs recorded 140.58 mm of rain and 109.06 mm of rainfall was seen in the eastern suburbs of the city.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) G-North ward, which includes Dadar, Dharavi, Mahim, and Matunga, recorded the maximum rainfall amounts at 238 mm, while the G-South ward, with Worli and Lower Parel, got 208 mm rainfall, a civic official said.
The suburban train services, which were adversely affected on Thursday night due to waterlogging in several low-lying areas of the city and suburbs, have resumed normal operations with some delays primarily in the suburbs, officials said.
However, the Central Railway has claimed that the suburban services were running as per schedule. Despite rains between CSMT-Thane and CSMT-Vashi sections, there was no waterlogging on the tracks anywhere and trains were running as per schedule, said Shivaji Sutar, the chief public relations officer of the Central Railway, as reported by PTI.
Moreover, the Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) had to divert a few routes due to waterlogging in the Sion area of the city. Traffic movement was hindered on over 12 bus routes.
The movement of local trains was also affected due to waterlogging on tracks, especially between Kurla to Parel section on the Central Railway line, and due to some technical snags on the Western Railway route.
According to a BMC report, Colaba and Santacruz had reported 361.8 mm and 291.8 mm of rainfall till Wednesday. Mumbai had received just 11.72 per cent rainfall till June 29, of 2,472 mm average annual rainfall, the report added.
