  • Dhawan recently guided India to a series win over the West Indies.
  • Dhawan will also lead India in the Zimbabwe series.
Even though Shikhar Dhawan has the potential and experience to remain an all-format player for Team India, the veteran opener only gets to ply his trade with the Rohit Sharma-led side in One Day Internationals (ODIs). One of the finest left-handed openers in the modern era, Dhawan has made a pledge to himself. The Indian southpaw has vowed that he would like to be an asset and not a liability till the time he is playing international cricket for the Rahul Dravid-coached Team India.
Talking about head coach Dravid and all-format Indian skipper Rohit, premier batter Dhawan said that he has had good communication with batting legend Dravid. The ODI specialist regularly speaks to Rohit since he is the main leader of the Indian team. After becoming the first Indian skipper to lead the Asian giants to a series whitewash of the West Indies in the Caribbean, Dhawan will captain the Men In Blue during the upcoming Zimbabwe tour.
Speaking to news agency PTI, Dhawan said that the team's vision is paramount for all members. "Obviously, I speak to Rohit as he is the main leader. So when it comes to continuity, you need to discuss and consult with him. Team's vision is paramount for all of us," Dhawan said. Opener Dhawan also showered praise on head coach Dravid for giving freedom to players.
"It's always a two-way street between captain and coach, and same is the case between me and Rahul bhai. Whatever decision is taken is a collective one. In meetings, every individual is given freedom to express his opinion and once we get multiple opinion, we come together and decide what's best. In this way, you empower people to think and at the same time decide what's best for the team," Dhawan explained. Under the leadership of Dhawan, Team India will be playing a three-match ODI series in Zimbabwe. The series opener will be played at Harare Sports Club in Harare on August 18.
