Ludhiana: A man allegedly strangled a woman, who reportedly runs a beauty parlour, to death for refusing his marriage proposal in the Jodhan area of Ludhiana district in Punjab late on Friday night.
The accused has been identified as 26-year-old Sukhdeep Singh, a resident of Nangal Kalan village under Pakhowal Tehsil in Ludhiana district and works as an assistant to a medical practitioner. He has been arrested from near Narangwal, reported The Indian Express.
The deceased woman, Ravinder alias Ruby (26), a resident of Shehzaad village is a divorcee and has a four-year-old daughter, informed Inspector Davinder Singh, SHO of Jodhan police station.
Based on the complaint of the father of the victim, Charanjit Singh, the accused Sukhdeep Singh was booked for murder and arrested, informed the SHO.
The SHO said when the woman was at her beauty parlour on Friday, the accused barged inside and forced her colleague to leave. Later, an argument broke out between them after the man proposed to her for marriage.
“When she did not agree, Sukhdeep first attacked her with scissors and then strangled her to death with her dupatta. Ruby’s parents reached the spot after being informed by her colleague. They broke open the door and saw her body lying on the floor,” the SHO added as quoted by The Indian Express.
The family of the woman told the police that Ravinder met Sukhdeep four months ago but when he started forcing her to marry, she started avoiding him.
The victim's family further stated that Ravinder went to their house a week ago and created a scene.
