New Delhi: About ten to 15 percent of Indians applying for student visas to Germany are "frauds", German ambassador Philipp Ackerman said today.
Speaking about Indian students in Germany, he said that there were about 30,000 Indian students in Germany and they were all doing very well, but he regretted that there were some agents in India who were "good at falsification." This has made the German authorities look more thoroughly at the applications by all students. "Only those who should go will go."
Ackerman added that some Indians students have not got or will not get their visas on time. "Tell the German universities that it is the fault of the German embassy. The German government has also spoken with the universities. The hiccups have to do with Covid," he said.
Even about other visas, the ambassador admitted there was a delay. "We are unhappy about the visa situation. We can't deliver. We are sitting together with our consulates to find solutions. He hoped things would be back to normal by the end of the year.
Speaking about the friendship between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, he said that the new head of government Olaf Scholz is keen to build on the friendship. Scholz wants India's presence at major multilateral events, he said.
