Daniil Medvedev is one of the best male tennis players of present times. The Russian is world number one in the men’s singles rankings and is now gearing up to take part in the season’s final Grand Slam tournament – the US Open – where he is the defending champion.
The 26-year-old won his first major slam last year when he defeated then-number one Novak Djokovic in straight sets. The Serbian was favourite for the title going into the game, but was easily defeated 6-4, 6-4, 6-4, which also ended his dream of winning a calendar slam.
Medvedev has already suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the Australian Open final against Rafael Nadal this year, and he has been barred from competing in Wimbledon due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
He made his comeback in Mexico last week and won the title there, but in the Canadian Open, where he was the defending champion, Daniil suffered an embarrassing defeat at the hands of 2022 Wimbledon losing finalist Nick Kyrgios this week.
After his defeat against the Australian, Medvedev expressed his anger and frustration on a bunch of tennis fans who called him a "loser" following his disappointing defeat.
In a video which has gone viral on the internet, the Russian can be seen responding aggressively to the spectator, who can be heard calling him a "loser" while the tennis player was walking out of the stadium.
After listening to the ‘loser’ chant, Medvedev approached the fan and looked at it as if they were both engaged in an argument. The 2021 US Open winner eventually left the scene after security guards intervened in the matter.
After being eliminated in the second round in Montreal, Daniil Medvedev expressed his disappointment as he admitted that he didn’t feel confident after losing and it would not be easy for him to recover and mark his return to practise knowing that other players were there competing for the 1,000 points that he just let slip from his hands.
