India have been dealt a huge blow to their chances at the T20 World Cup 2022 chances even before the start of their campaign. Strike pace bowler for the Men in Blue, Jasprit Bumrah has been officially ruled out of the elite competition after undergoing a severe back injury.
Thus, out of the initial 15-member squad that was announced for the T20 World Cup, only 14 have travelled to Australia. A replacement for Bumrah will be announced shortly in the coming days.
Rumours have been rife as to who would replace the right-arm fast bowler in the squad. The top three bowlers in contention for the spot are said to be Mohammad Siraj, Mohammad Shami and Deepak Chahar.
Legendary South Africa speedster Dale Steyn feels that Mohammad Shami is the ideal replacement for Jasprit Bumrah for the T20 World Cup.
“I'm sad and I feel for him (Bumrah). As a replacement, I would look at someone who can qualify with similar experience. Mohammed Shami is probably the guy I would go with. He's been around the world, he can swing the ball and he can bowl quickly when he wants to,” Steyn said in an interaction with Hindustan Times.
Steyn further went on to say that he has Shami's name written down as the top of the pile of Bumrah's replacements. "You've got a bunch of other guys as well. You've got Deepak who has got swing, Siraj who has got skills, and Avesh has some good pace. But I think the top of the pile woud be Shami, I've got him written down here. If he's fully fit, he's somebody the opposition do fear. But India would be missing Bumrah for sure," he added.
Dale Steyn also said that India will definitely miss Jasprit Bumrah in the T20 World Cup 2022. “Once the opposition hears that Jasprit Bumrah is unavailable, they all breathe a sigh of relief. He's such a ownderufl bowler. He's played around the world, he's an impact player, he can bowl at any time in the match. His execution of skills is on point, and India rely heafvily on him. It's a pity that he is not at the World Cup, because me, as an spectator, I acutally want to go and watch him play,” Steyn said.
