MVA coalition has supported Shiv Sena MLA Rajan Salvi to challenge Bharatiya Janata Party Rahul Narvekar in the July 3 election for the office of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Speaker, heightening interest in that state's speaker election. Rahul Narvekar, a rookie BJP MP, sent up his paperwork on Friday while the MVA candidate submitted his candidacy on Saturday. The Maharashtra Assembly will convene a two-day Special Session on Sunday. A vote of confidence in the recently elected Eknath Shinde administration will take place on July 4.
