New Delhi: Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Sunday said that the Shiv Sena-BJP government in the state will take forward Bal Thackeray’s ideology.
Addressing the assembly after Rahul Narvekar of BJP was elected Speaker of Maharashtra Assembly, Shinde termed the rebellion against Uddhav Thackeray a “huge thing”.
“I myself was a minister, several other ministers too left the Government. This was a huge thing for a common worker like me who was devoted to the ideology of Balasaheb Thackeray and Anand Dighe,” he said.
He further said that now a BJP-Shiv Sena government has taken charge of Maharashtra based on the beliefs of Balasaheb Thackeray.
To date, we had seen that people change sides from Opposition to Government but this time leaders of government went to Opposition, he said.
On becoming CM, Shinde said he was not expecting anything, but BJP respected democracy and supported him.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that this government of the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance, under the leadership of Eknath Shinde, will try to fulfil all the aspirations of Maharashtra.
We hope that Speaker will give a good co-operation for the same, he said.
Earlier, former Chief Minister and Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray had said that a person who deserted the party cannot be a ‘Shiv Sena CM’.
Slamming the statements of several Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders claiming that a ‘Shiv Sainik’ (Shinde) had finally become the state Chief Minister, Thackeray termed them as “attempts being made to misguide the Shiv Sena workers”.
Shinde took a plunge into politics in 1986 after he came in contact with his future mentor Anand Dighe and decided to join the Shiv Sena full time. The party rewarded him with a ticket to the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) where he served as a two-term corporator.
After Dighe passed away in 2001, Shinde became the torchbearer of his legacy and became close to the Sena chief and other senior leaders.
He was given an MLA ticket from Thane and he won the elections, and repeated victory consecutively in 2009, 2014 and then in 2019.
