CWG 2022: Indian boxer Rohit Tokas wins bronze medal in men's 67 kg category

Indian boxer Rohit Tokas on Saturday won a bronze medal in the men's 67 kg category. He was defeated by Zambia's Stephen Zimba by a split decision of 2-3 in the semi-final. Earlier in the day, Mohammed Hussamuddin and Jaismine Lamboriya also settled for bronze. On Day 9 of the games, India won 14 medals, including four gold.

Birmingham: Indian boxer Rohit Tokas on Saturday won a bronze medal in the men's 67 kg category. In the semifinal, he was defeated by Zambia's Stephen Zimba by a split decision of 2-3. In the quarter-final, Tokas registered a comprehensive win over Niue’s Xavier Mata’fa-Ikinofo with a unanimous decision of 5-0.
Earlier in the day, Mohammed Hussamuddin and Jaismine Lamboriya also settled for bronze. Hussamuddin lost to Ghana's Joseph Commey 1-4 in the men's 57 kg featherweight category. Lamboriya was defeated by England's Gemma Paige.
In the boxing, India is assured of winning at least seven medals with four of its boxers are in contention to win gold medals. Nikhat Zareen, Nitu Ghanghas, Amit Panghal and Sagar Ahlawat stormed into the semifinals in their respective categories.
On Day 9 of the games, India won 14 medals, including four gold. India women's cricket team and men's hockey team advanced into the finals. Indian shuttlers PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen, Kidambi Srikanth also stormed into the semi-finals. India is currently at the fifth place in the CWG 2022 medal tally with 13 gold, 11 silver and 17 bronze. Most number of 11 medals were won by Indian wrestlers at the Commonwealth Games 2022.
In the wrestling event, Bajrang Punia, Deepak Punia, Ravi Kumar Dahiya, Naveen, Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat won gold in their respective categories. Meanwhile, India weightlifters won 10 medals, including three gold.
Australia is at the top of the medal tally with 58 gold, followed by England with 50 gold.
