Suspended BJP MLA Raja T Singh was arrested by Hyderabad Police

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Police on Thursday arrested suspended BJP MLA Raja Singh again, just days after a court let him off in connection with a case registered against him for making controversial remarks on Prophet Muhammad. This is the second time within a week the police have taken him into custody.
The Hyderabad Police have invoked the PD (Preventive Detention) Act against Singh. "Raja Singh has been detained under Act No.1 of 1986 on 25.8.2022 i.e. P.D Act as per the orders of the Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad City," the police said in a statement. "Raja Singh has been habitually delivering provocative and inflammatory speeches and driving a wedge between communities leading to public order," the statement added.
The police said that records disclose that out of 101 criminal cases registered against him, he was involved in 18 communal offenses. The Mangalhat Police has executed the PD order on him. He is being lodged in Central Prison, Cheriapally.
Earlier on Tuesday, the police arrested Singh for making certain statements about the Prophet and sought his remand. However, the Naompally court returned the application by observing that the BJP leader was arrested in violation of Section 41A CrPC. He was released the same day. Earlier in the day, the Hyderabad Police approached the Telangana High Court challenging the order given by the Nampally criminal court returning the remand petition against Raja Singh. The police challenged the order citing procedural violation.
Singh has been booked under Indian Penal Code sections 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion), 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs), 505 (2) (making, publishing or circulating any statement or report containing rumour or alarming news with intent to create or promote feelings of enmity and hatred) and 506 (criminal intimidation).
Raja Singh made those remarks while commenting on stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui. Singh had opposed Faruqui's show in Hyderabad on the ground that he insults Hindu Gods. However, the city police provided security and the show was held successfully.
The suspended BJP leader later released a video and made some remarks on Faruqui which Muslims claimed were against their Prophet. The Muslims hit the streets and demanded Raja Singh's arrest.
Hyderabad MP and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said the BJP and its MLA T Raja Singh issued a video expressing their hate against Prophet Muhammad. "The prophet lives in the hearts of Muslims... We will continue our protests till this MLA is arrested," he said.
Singh in his recent video claimed that the reason why there is communal violence in the state is that KTR, the son of Telangana chief minister KCR, is involved in it.
