It seems Shilpa Shetty's much hyped return to theatres after 14 years did not exactly go as planned. Nikamma, which stars Bhagyashree's son Abhimanyu Dassani in the lead, has Shilpa Shetty essay a pivotal role. The remake of the 2017 Telugu hit Middle Class Abbayi, starring Nani, the film released across theatres on June 17, but has failed to make a mark.
On the contrary, Kartik Aaryan starrer Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, has managed to hold on to the interest of cinema goers, creating a benchmark in its 5th weekend at theatres as well.
Earlier today, film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted Nikamma's dismal business at the box office. Adarsh tweeted, "#Nikamma meets with a tragic fate... After a low starting point [Day 1], the dismal response on Day 2 and 3 seals its fate... Fri 51 lacs, Sat 48 lacs, Sun 52 lacs. Total: ₹ 1.51 cr. #India biz."

On the contrary, Kartik's Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 has continued to draw crowds to movie theatres, setting new benchmarks in Weekend 5 as well. Adarsh shared the film's business, writing, "#BhoolBhulaiyaa2 is setting new benchmarks in Weekend 5 [₹ 5.68 cr]... Second to #KGF2 [₹ 6.35 cr], but better than #TKF [₹ 2.50 cr] and #RRR [₹ 3.32 cr] in *Weekend 5*... [Week 5] Fri 1.15 cr, Sat 2.02 cr, Sun 2.51 cr. Total: ₹ 181.82 cr. #India biz."

One reason for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2's continued good run at the box office could be the lack of any good film giving competition to the horror comedy. While YRF's big-budget Samrat Prithviraj fared terribly at ticket windows, Adivi Sesh's Major has continued low at the BO, while Anud Singh Dhaka and Nushrratt Bharuccha's Janhit Mein Jaari has crashed at the box office.
The critic and analyst shared Janhit's business, tweeting, "#JanhitMeinJaari crashes in Weekend 2 [80.82% decline] vis-à-vis Weekend 1... This, despite absence of prominent/noteworthy opposition... [Week 2] Fri 9 lacs, Sat 16 lacs, Sun 17 lacs. Total: ₹ 3.75 cr. #India biz."
Meanwhile, Kartik himself shared Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2's business on Instagram earlier today.
The actor shared an image from the film, and wrote, "#Grateful #BhoolBhulaiyaa2 Completes One Month in Theatres and 180 Crores Crossed 2.5 crores yesterday on 5th Sunday."
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, a standalone sequel to Bhool Bhulaiyaa also stars Tabu and Kiara Advani in pivotal roles.
