Heavy rain lashes Pune; several parts of city inundated, water enters houses

Pune witnessed heavy rains in many parts of the city resulting in severe waterlogging. The weather officials predicted that the rain is likely to continue.

Pune: Several parts of Pune city on Saturday witnessed heavy rains leading to waterlogging in many places. Several vehicles were seen wading through knee-deep in several pockets of the city and heavy traffic snarls were also reported from many major roads. The city has been receiving light to moderate and occasional heavy rains in the past few days. According to weather officials, the city received 70 mm of rainfall until 6:45 pm on Saturday.
Several roads including the one outside the Pune Fire Brigade office on BT Kawade Road submerged and the fire officials helped city residents to pass through the water. Rainwater has entered the houses of some people in the Kothrud area of Pune. Jungli Maharaj Road and Santoshnagar areas also witnessed severe waterlogging.
Citizens shared visuals of waterlogging and heavy rains on social media, tagging Pune Municipal Corporation.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that the rainfall in Maharashtra is likely to increase and will continue till September 14. The weatherman noted that the withdrawal of the monsoon is not likely till September 14. A red alert has been issued in Pune for the next three days and a yellow alert has been issued for the coastal districts of Konkan for the next four days.
