Locals suspect UFO crash after strange cloud appears over mountain in US; pics go viral

The appearance of a bizarre cloud over a mountain in Alaska made locals in the area wonder whether a UFO had crashed on to Earth.

The mysterious cloud appeared on Thursday above Lazy Mountain the northernmost US state. It didn't take time before locals started sharing photos of the cloud on social media.

While many suspected suspicious activities by Russian troops, some folks thought it was a UFO or a meteor that crashed into Earth. Then there were those who suggested a plane crash or a top-secret military weapon was the reason for the strange cloud.

In other words, the cloud of mystery resulted in several social media conspiracy theories.

The investigation was reportedly conducted by The Alaska State Troopers and the Alaska Rescue Coordination Centre.

The State Troopers said in a statement: "There have been no reports of overdue aircraft or ELT activations indicating an aircraft crash. A rescue team on a helicopter flew a mission around the Lazy Mountain area this morning and located nothing suspicious and there were no signs of crashed aircraft."

The debate and theories continued unabated on social media. However, further investigation revealed that a large commercial jet was flying in the area around the same time the photos and videos were taken.

In the end, the troopers concluded the strange-looking cloud was a 'contrail from the commercial jet combined with the rising sun which together caused the unique atmospheric sight'.
