New Delhi: Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya chaired a meeting with key experts and officials on the backdrop of upsurge in COVID cases in some states.
The minister was given a presentation status of COVID cases in India and the global scenario of surge in cases. Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya suggested to focus on districts reporting high case positivity, increase in surveillance and ramp up testing.
The panel of experts and officials included Dr Bharati Praveen Pawar; MoS, Health Ministry; Dr. V K Paul, Member, NITI Aayog; Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Health Ministry, National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration for Covid-19 (NEGVAC) officials and others.
The officials were also directed to continue to focus on surveillance and Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) to search for any possible mutation. Further they were directed to monitor hospitalizations due to COVID19 and SARI/ILI cases.
Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya also urged officials to increase the pace of vaccination including booster doses in districts reporting high cases. He said, “There are adequate vaccine doses available, while there should be focus on accelerating vaccination, there should be no vaccine wastage.
India today reported 13,313 new Covid-19 cases, 10,972 recoveries and 38 deaths in the past 24 hours. The daily positivity rate is at 2.03 percent, the weekly positivity rate stands at 2.81 percent. There are a total of 83,990 active Covid cases in India.
Maharashtra, Kerala, Delhi, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, West Bengal and Gujarat are the top 10 states that are contributing most cases in the daily Covid tally.
The country's cumulative vaccination coverage has crossed 196.75 crore. Till 7 pm today, more than 11 lakh vaccine doses were administered.
