How Air Fares Are Moving In India

Ticket prices have fallen for the top-20 routes in India. The 7-day forward air ticket booking rates have fallen as much as 25%, while the prices for 2-month forward have either fallen or remain unchanged. The top five routes that have seen the biggest fall in the 7-day forward prices are – Mumbai-Delhi, Delhi-Mumbai, Delhi-Bengaluru, Pune-Delhi, and Delhi-Pune.The reason behind the fall in prices could be airlines passing on the benefits of lower crude prices to consumers, rising competitive intensity with the launch of a new airline – Akasa, and airlines trying to boost air traffic in India. Interestingly, 2-month forward fares are either higher or the same compared to 7-day forward. Generally, 2-month forward ticket prices trend lower compared to 7-day rates.
