Guwahati: Three rhino statues have been installed at Mihimukh in Kaziranga National Park which has been created using the ashes created from burning rhino horns. The statues were unveiled by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma along with spiritual leader Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev on Saturday during the inauguration of a three-day Chintan Shivir at Kaziranga as reported by news agency ANI.
On September 22, 2021, the Assam government made history when a stockpile of 2,479 rhino horns was set on fire in an attempt to send across a strong message to poachers and illegal horn traders that rhino horns have no medicinal value. These statues were then created using the ashes generated from the operation to immortalise the efforts and dedication of those who selflessly protect Assam’s pride, the great one-horned rhinoceros, reported ANI.
The Shivir was inaugurated with an aim to draw a roadmap for holistic development of the state and to create a blueprint for expediting its growth as a model for all sectors.
Speaking on the occasion, Assam Chief Minister Sarma said that Assam was once a flourishing state and its state GDP growth was more than the national average. “The per capita income of the state was also more than the national average, he said. Though the state is contributing greatly to the growth of the nation, in the last 75 years the growth of the state has not been as encouraging as it should have been,” Sarma said as reported by ANI.
The Chief Minister also thanked Sadhguru for travelling to Kaziranga to address the Chintan Shivir. He added that Sadhguru’s wisdom and his ideas would really help the government to build and promote a socio-cultural-economic and academic empowerment narrative in the state which would help spread the fruit of development across the state.
