Noida woman techie's death: Policeman named by victim in video arrested for abetment to suicide

The accused policeman identified as Akash was arrested on Friday and charged with abetment to suicide. The techie had recorded the distress video at the cop's flat.

Noida: The city police have arrested a police constable working as a computer operator at a Noida police station in connection with the death of a woman IT professional, who was found hanging at a hotel in the city on Tuesday.
The accused policemen has been identified as Akash Singh, who is in his 20s. The policeman was named in a video by the 26-year-old victim before her death. The deceased had sent the video to her ex-boyfriend pleading to save her from Akash.
The accused cop, arrested on Friday, has been charged with abetment to suicide. He was on the run since the death of the woman, according to a report in Times of India.
The policeman has also been suspended, said police. Police earlier arrested Arjun, former boyfriend of the deceased. The accused Arjun is a resident of Ghaziabad.
Initially, the accused policeman, who joined the police in 2020, had fled to hometown Meerut but later returned to the city.
Akash was posted at Sector 49 police station. Police had filed a case under sections of rape and murder after the victim's father alleged that his daughter was raped and murdered and his death was made to look like a suicide. Police said the post-mortem report of the victim has ruled out sexual assault.
Before her death, the woman had sent a video to Arjun seeking his help and talking about be trapped by the policeman.
According to police, the video was recorded at cop's flat in Noida on July 31 night. A police spokesperson said the hotel booking was made by the woman herself and the CCTV footage showed that the woman arrived at the hotel alone on August 1.
