Custom officials seize gold worth Rs 23.09 lakh concealed in mixer grinder at Mangaluru International Airport

Mangaluru: Cracking the whip on the smugglers, the Customs officials at the Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) seized 461 gm of gold, valued at Rs 23,09,610, from a flyer. The passenger has arrived here from Dubai, PTI reported.
The officials intercepted the male passenger, hailing from Thiruvananthapuram on September 27. He was trying to smuggle the gold concealed in the form of a brown colour coated oil in the motor of a mixer grinder, a press release stated.
After heating and removing the coating, the gold was formed into a rectangular bar of 24 carats, weighing 461 gm. The gold was seized and further investigation is in progress, the official statement said.
Recently, in June 2022, the Customs officials at MIA seized 624 grams of smuggled gold valued at Rs 32.72 lakh from a passenger hailing from Kasaragod, Kerala. The passenger had arrived from Dubai in an Air India flight. The gold had been concealed in powder form inside the brown carton box carried as checked-in baggage, a tweet from Mangaluru Customs stated.
Similarly, officials of the Customs department at the MIA seized gold that was being smuggled by a male passenger. The passenger, hailing from Bhatkal in Uttara Kannada district, had arrived from Dubai. The officials seized 24-carat gold weighing 364.5 gm worth Rs 18,95,400 from the passenger.
He had tried to smuggle the gold in the paste form packed in a paper and plastic packet which was concealed inside the stitched pocket of ladies' undergarments carried in a carton box.
