New Delhi: A day after his arrest, the CBI has claimed in its remand note that Aam Aadmi Party leader and Arvind Kejriwal aide Vijay Nair had been 'actively involved in the formulation' of the contentious Delhi liquor policy. The probe agency had nabbed him for conspiracy, 'cartelisation' and 'chosen licensing' in the excise policy - allegations that the AAP has insisted were 'baseless'.
The CBI remand note accessed by Times Now cites witness statements and retrieved WhatsApp chats to contend that Nair had been 'actively involved' in the formulation of the policy.
"It is also alleged that the accused was further involved in meeting with the other co-accused and liquor manufacturers as well as distributors in diferent hotels at Hyderabad, Mumbai and Delhi for arranging ill-gotten money through hawala operators and channels..." the remand note added. It also accused Nair of arranging commissions from wholesale distributors.
A Delhi Court on Wednesday sent the AAP communication strategist to CBI remand for five days for his alleged role in the irregularities pertaining to the excise policy of the Delhi Government.
Earlier in August, CBI had registered an FIR against Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and 14 others in connection with alleged irregularities in the formulation and implementation of the excise policy. Excise officials, liquor company executives, dealers and some unidentified public servants and private persons have also been booked in the case.
"Vijay Nair is communication in-charge of AAP. He was responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies in Punjab earlier and Gujarat now. He has nothing to do with excise policy. Strangely, he has been arrested by CBI just now in the case," the AAP had countered in a statement following his arrest.
