Ever since Alia Bhatt announced that she and her hubby Ranbir Kapoor are expecting their first child, there have been ample reports about how pregnancy will impact the Gangubai Kathiawadi actress’ professional life.
Previously, Alia had fiercely reacted to one such report which suggested that Ranbir will be flying to the United Kingdom to pick up his pregnant wife, who was filming her Hollywood debut Heart Of Stone in London.
Taking to her Instagram stories, the mom-to-be had written, “No one needs to PICK anyone up… I am a women not a parcel!!!!” Now, opening up about her outburst, Alia revealed that what triggered her was the false narrative that the report was trying to set about pregnant women.
While speaking with Bollywood Bubble, she said, “When people try and sell a different narrative like that, I only get irritated not because it is in relation to me, because you are trying to tell a totally different story about women in general, which I won’t stand for anymore.”
She continued, “You say whatever you want about me personally, that’s fine, but if you are making commentary on a woman’s role suddenly changing just because she is going to be a mother, that’s not right and that’s not fair.”
“I have been working non-stop. Non-stop. And I don’t want you to give this narrative to other younger girls. It has nothing to do with defending myself. I don’t care to defend myself,” Alia added.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Alia is gearing up for the release of her maiden production venture Darlings. Directed by debutant Jasmeet K Reen, the dark comedy also features Shefali Shah and Vijay Varma and is co-produced by Shah Rukh Khan.
Darlings is slated to premiere on Netflix on August 5. A month later, Alia will be seen in hugely-anticipated Brahmastra opposite Ranbir.
